From the moment you enter the driveway off the Great Alpine Road, your senses will be alive. Towering Dutch Elms and English Oaks lead you to a rammed earth car port and the sheer beauty of the The House at Smoko is immediately unmistakable.

From the outside, the craftsmanship, gardens and views leave you breathless…inside is a pure masterpiece.

The kitchen is filled with light by large windows looking out to the Elms and surrounding gardens while a skylight in the ceiling and Baltic pine floors further enhance the brightness. Bench tops milled from red box and galvanised steel stools create a social space and compliment the modern kitchen.

The living area is partially divided from the kitchen via a screen of rough-hewn planks designed to reflect the openness of a mountain ash forest, with the living room appearing as a clearing in the forest from the kitchen. Sofas by Jardan make staring at the open fire or out the windows to Mt Feathertop an experience in luxury and beauty.

The dining room is built in the style of an old tobacco kiln reflective of the history of this part of Victoria. It has the highest ceiling to reflect its sociable purpose and a giant window and day bed to lose yourself in the views of Mt Feathertop and the Snowy Mountains. A skylight in the vaulted ceiling brings more light and the space is separated from the living room by a circular bookcase suspended from its structure by cables and bordered by Victorian Ash posts. It also features a heated polished concrete floor.

A smaller, separate TV room or study also with Mt Feathertop and garden views provides flexibility for multiple guests while reading nooks with various aspects are dotted through the house for those who like to bury themselves in a good book.

Outside, the deck features an open stone fireplace which conjures feelings of sitting by a campfire and a retractable awning makes it possible even when the Snowy Mountain heavens open. The view of Mt Feathertop and the surrounding mountains from here will make it hard to leave.
